Bungalow Balihai is located on the island of Huahine in French Polynesia / Tahiti. It’s a quiet tropical paradise in the heart of the South Pacific Ocean as part of the Society group of islands. It is a territory of France and Huahine itself has approx. 6500 residents. Bungalow Balihai is located on the north west of the island and is just metres from pristine beaches.
FROM AUSTRALIA: Air Tahiti Nui and Qantas fly from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia via Auckland.
Air New Zealand also has flights from all Australia’s major cities including Perth. These flights are all via Auckland.
FROM NEW ZEALAND: Flights from Auckland to Papeete are approx. 5 hours
ISLAND TRANSFER: To reach Bungalow Balihai you will need to take an island transfer flight from Papeete to Huahine which is approx. 40 minutes. Our manager will be there at the airport in Huahine to pick you up and take you to your accommodation at Bungalow Balihai via the supermarket so you can get your basic supplies if you wish.
The cost of flying from the east coast of Australia all the way to Bungalow Bali Hai starts from $1,500AUD.

Currency on the island is Pacific Franc (approx. 108 Pacific Franc = 1 US dollar). Some places accept US dollar but they are limited.
We provide bicycles for cruising around the island, going to the shops or the beach. The island of Huahine is 75 square Kilometres. If you wish to explore more widely we recommend you rent a car for the day starting from $70US. We recommend Europe Car located just up the road from Bungalow Balihai.
The local people are very friendly and accommodating but don’t have strong English. French and Tahitian are the main languages spoken by the locals.
Surfing on the Island has its rules and the local surfers don’t like cameras in the line up or groups of surfers taking their waves. We must follow the Island rules and we only accept one surfer per group.
There are several little restaurants set up on caravans throughout the town but only a handful are recommended. Our manager will show you which ones are the best on request. We have a recommended burger store called Izzy’s just in front of our private road. It is also the recommended location for coffee, it is the best on the Island.
The Yacht Club is a great place for a drink at sunset time and dinner from 6pm onwards.
If you feel like being a little indulgent, you can have drinks and beautiful food right next door at the Maitai Lapita Village Hotel.
The supermarket is a 5 minute bike ride from Bungalow Balihai and it has everything you may need. It opens everyday except Sunday afternoons. We have a good pharmacy just up the road, a Post Office and a few ATMs all within walking distance.
There is a medical centre close by but there are no hospitals on the Island and travel insurance is highly recommended.
